Paynter Dixon is responsible for the design and construction of a new 3-storey primary school building for Toongabbie Christian College in Western Sydney.

The College is a co-educational Christian school catering to more than 970 students from Kindergarten through to Year 12.

Founded in 1981 as a small primary school operating out of rooms within Toongabbie Baptist Church, the school established a permanent campus on Metella Road in the mid-1980s.

Building on 40-plus years of sustained growth, the College has committed to upgrading and building new facilities to meet the needs of current and future students. The new structure will connect to an existing adjacent building to form the primary school precinct.

The new building will comprise of 23 classrooms, administration, and support areas:

  • Ground floor
    • 3 kindergarten classrooms
    • Reception area, uniform shop, and 2 meeting rooms
    • Administration facilities
    • Learning enrichment room
    • College journey room with school memorabilia
  • First floor
    • 3 classrooms per First, Second, Third and Fourth Year (12 in total)
    • English as a second language and learning support
  • Second floor
    • 4 classrooms per Fifth and Sixth Year (8 in total)
    • Outdoor play area located on the roof terrace
  • Colour-themed floors and interior palette inspired by the College logo

Design has facilitated visual connectivity and site lines within the building to aid teaching staff and subtly reinforce the notion of community to the student body.

“For the first time, all primary school students will be located in one building,” says Design Architect and Director of Paynter Dixon, Matthew Greene.

“Kindergarten will occupy the ground floor and have direct outdoor access, while older students will occupy the above floors. This proximity of various age groups within the building will actively contribute to the development of students and the collegiate spirit of the school.”

Paynter Dixon was initially appointed by the College to prepare a masterplan. This collaborative process subsequently identified the primary school building as a priority of capital works.

“This project represents a continuation of our powerful partnership with Toongabbie Christian College, and confirms the value of a strong masterplan.”

Construction of the new building is scheduled for completion ahead of the 2025 school year.
