A unique architecturally designed, 120-seat hall.

Rudolph Steiner schools have a reputation for delivering education differently with their emphasis on a creative education.

There is a strong emphasis on teaching through the arts; painting, speech, singing and choral work, poetry recitation, music, drama, dance and movement, and sculpture are embedded within the curriculum.

So, when the Glenaeon Rudolph Steiner School at Middle Cove decided to build a new congregation hall – it took a novel approach.

Paynter Dixon worked closely with the project architect who designed an amorphous 120-seat hall wrapped around existing buildings.

The building design was unique and presented some challenges, including minimising disruption to day-to-day learning.

To match the wrapped design, Paynter Dixon constructed a dry creek bed interpretation, using boulders excavated during construction.
